Celebrity Basketball with Dan Quayle

Little known fact*: Dan Quayle averaged 15.3 points per game in the 1983-84 U.S. Legislative League. His uncanny ability to nail a three pointer (35.6 percent on wide-open shots) led him to often be picked fourth for five-on-five teams. "'Deadeye Dan', as we called him, could really convert a right-handed layup with stunning consistency. Give the guy 25 to 30 shot attempts a game, and he could get you 20 points," said teammate Bill Bradley. "His only drawback was an occassional tendency to corral a defensive rebound, and then immediately shoot the ball -- at the opponent's goal. He wasn't so good at thinking on his feet, as they say."
